Curtains- 0 for 2

Today I bought curtains for the kitchen and the bedroom. Chris requested bedroom curtains that would block the street light that comes in the window next to his side of the bed. I went to Target, looking for something that I liked and was affordable...I thought these were good until I got them hung (Also, imagine hard wood floors in this pic, the carpet is coming out this summer):

I think the color is too light...maybe a chocolate brown? Also, standard curtain lengths are 63 and 84 inches and our rods are hung 80 inches from the ground. Other than making my own curtains, how do I over come this? Any suggestions?

These are the before curtains in the kitchen (from our apt. in NC):

And these are the after:

They are okay, didn't love them up and they aren't lined so you can see the sun shining through them so they are going back as well.

I did make one small home decorating improvement that I liked this week (the keys above the fridge):

I think you are right about the curtains. If the lengths are wierd then maybe the best bet is to just staple a blanket to the wall like i said? Love you.

Not going to happen. That's all I'm saying. Love you!

JcPenney has Linden Street thermal curtains (search for Linden Street thermal on the web site) that I bought for our bedroom because I have the same problem with a street light. They really do a good job blocking out light. Plus, being thermal they help keep us regulate the temp inside without having to crank the a/c or heat. I think they also came in 72" length.

Lindsay, thanks for the suggestion! I just ordered some from pottery barn but if those don't work out, I'll try JCP!

I know what the problem is---you are used to making your own curtains!!! As far as the length-if you REALLY like the curtains you can either hem them or let them as they are. I have seen them like that. I agree, you need more color in tn the bedroom, but i like the ones in the kitchen.

You can also buy "hemming tape" at JoAnn's Fabrics, that would allow you to shorten the bottom of the curtains without having to sew them (whichever ones you choose in the end!) :)

Laura, thanks for the advice! I will check that out!

Sandy, No time to make these and by the time I buy fabric for full length curtains, it is cheaper to purchase them :)

I agree the bedroom curtains are too light. I really like the kitchen curtains though, from your posting I did not think the sun shinning thru them looked bad at all. The keys look very nice. Goood luck with your next purchases. Typical man response about the sheet.Sharon
