Happy Birthday to Chris!

Today is Chris’s 25th birthday…and lucky him, he doesn’t have to work! I’m sure that he will have a fun day at home with Max and out on the golf course.

Happy Birthday to the man that I am very lucky to call my husband and (finally) get to live with! He is my spider killer, dog walking partner and keeps me laughing. I love you!

Charleston, SC

Chris and I spent the weekend in Charleston, SC with our friend Grant. It is an absolutely beautiful city full of architecture and character that Fayetteville lacks. We rode the motorcycle there and back…I learned that 3+ hours is just a little too long of a ride for me! We did stop a couple of times each way to make the ride a little more manageable. After we checked into our hotel, we spent time walking around the city and enjoying the sites. We walked over to the ferry for Ft. Sumter but we missed the last one for the day. After that we headed to the City Market for some open air shopping and down to the battery for the stunning Charleston homes. In the evening we had dinner at Rue de Jean, which I would highly recommend, and went to Tommy Condon’s for some live Irish music.
Sunday morning brought more exploring and the ride home. All in all, a great weekend getaway!

Chicken Parmesan anyone?

After a fairly long week (having to watch the boss’s children and have new client meetings), I was lucky enough to have an understanding husband who took to the kitchen when I said I didn’t feel like cooking on Friday night. I was able to read on the couch with Max while Chris whipped up Chicken Parmesan and even opened a bottle of wine for me. I’m one fortunate wife, most guys would just order take-out!

Hair Cut

Last week I got a desperately needed haircut and highlight/lowlight from my stylist here, Meagan. My previous highlights were five months old and were looking pretty terrible. The cut doesn’t look much different because I’m growing it out for Tim and Danielle’s wedding. I’ve had various stages of short hair for the past year and a half so it is driving me crazy but I think I’ll manage for the next four months until the wedding (and Chris wants to see it longer).

Family Fun Weekend Part 2

Last weekend to continue the family fun, we had Steve, Sharon Brittany, Eric and Chloe come to stay with us. They arrived on Friday afternoon around 4pm and I left work early to meet them. They were excited to meet Max and we were all interested to see how he would deal with having their three year old Pomapoo (Pomeranian Poodle Mix) Chloe here. We stayed in on Friday night and the puppies got a chance to get friendly with each other. Chloe has a long, curly tag that Max took interest in at once. She had to be convinced that playing with him was fun but I think they both enjoyed it.

On Saturday morning the guys played the longest game of golf ever….9:30 tee time and they got home around 3pm. They blamed it on a slow party in front of them. Brittany and I went to spinning class at the gym in the morning and then all the girls went to tea at McGuffs Tea Emporium in downtown Fayetteville. This was my first tea but it is a family tradition and we had a wonderful time. The tea (Republic of Tea) was very enjoyable and the food was awesome, I can’t wait to go back! After our very pleasant meal, we spent time checking out all the shops in the downtown. We got some great wine at Bob and Sherree’s Wine shop that was just delicious! They were offering tastings on Saturday afternoon and we just couldn’t resist.

Sunday was a lazy day with shopping and TV watching…perfect activities for the hot, humid day. Chris’s parents and siblings stayed until Monday morning until I left for work and they started the trek back to Ohio. It’s so nice to have guests and we truly enjoyed having them stay with us! Unfortunately, I was having such a great time I forgot to take photos. Once I get some from Steve and Sharon, I’ll post them.

PS. We made a great appetizer that everyone should try: Baked Brie. Take a chunk of Brie cheese and wrap it up in Pillsbury crescent roll dough, be sure to seal all seems and perforations. Brush with a mixture of melted butter and honey. Top with slivered almonds. Bake in oven at 375 degrees for 15 minutes until golden brown. Baste with more butter/honey mixture once while baking and when removed from oven. Let cool a few minutes and serve.
